Skull- Fine silver, sterling and Shibuichi skull pendant
During this time -while sailing life- I wanted to create some silver -and Shibuichi- casting like old Native Americans -and Medieval among others- did in the past, carving stone -tufa, steatite...- to create a mold where to pour molten metals. Cast metals create bold, heavy and substantial forms solid and really interesting.
Oh, what Shibuichi is? It is a traditional Japanese alloy that mixes copper and silver to create a subtle gray when the patina is added, pinkish or brass like and with some golden tones when silver content is high -like in this case- . I had not used brass in this batch -collection?- every golden detail is Shibuichi -except for one piece that has 24K gold-
The ring on top and skull are Shibuichi, in this case the cast was done copying a Tibetan skull into cuttlefish while the textured area is fine silver and sterling silver in the separate cast with bars joining the skull and the top textured plate.
One of a kind, it can be oxidized even more or shine to their original metal color.
It measures total no counting the floating bail 83 x 31 x 8mm approx.
