Fire- Sterling silver, Mexican fire opal
Kurt, a friend, sends me treasures, we share the love for arts (If you don’t know guys, Kurt, a member of this tribe of free spirited rebels (Us!!!) is an AMAZING artist, he paints some amazing pieces, serious art, no lines and bubbles but impressive techniques, soul and sweat, hard work and passion, all made into its work -Check the pictures and vids of his work, you have to see his last in process work… https://www.facebook.com/kurtis.r.reed it is absolutely incredible- and some of the beauties he sends me end in pieces as elements. In this case the really cool hand cut semi raw Mexican Fire Opal. Inside, small balls of flames like orbs appears depending of the angle and light. inspired on its colors, got some really nice orange raw kyanite, silver and more silver, a chain I had “hamstered” for a while and saved for a special piece, a very expensive hand crafted heavy chain artisan made and contrast in a kyanite in blue. The settings in silver are raw but classic, adding wild spirit to a piece designed to be a blow of wildfire but also refreshing, organic, fine rustic jewelry. The “magic” sometimes happens in spontaneous ways, is not a defined plan, is pieces merging, being mixed, organized until I’m happy with the whole, when it is harmony in the asymmetry. I suspect imagine the colors and they seem to work by themselves immune to my will like if it doesn’t matter what I want, it matters what they want. Like this, a 90% of what I make it happens. Sometimes I’m surprised when pieces are finished, I didn’t traced a paper, I didn’t expected what they become.
It takes time. days. First the colors, then each setting, measure, solder, cut, pickle, polish and then setting each stone. Each step needs care, it is maybe as sacred as the tea ceremony to me. Then, the segments are joined, secured soldering and again, pickle, polish, oxidize, be Sure that are no sharp edges, no forgotten points where the piece that must caress could hurt. And Just Then is ready. Just Then.
I have no formal instruction in jewelry, I learned myself practicing, evolving, is not arts school in my curriculum -I was a law’s student and an athlete-, not teachers with amazing names. I made myself, so, my work is a reflection of that, no books, no influences, as primal as a wanderer’s soul, all heart, all fun, all passion.
Fire is That. Affection melting on a piece, a gift treasured to create with that as inspiration, and freedom, the uneducated freedom of this wild creator.
One of a Kind, it can be shortened.
It measures almost 22 inches long, solid oxidized silver, the 925 seal is at the front, pure rebellion.
